Hi TPLers. It's been almost 3 years since I've posted anything here. I'm off an on here at TPL coming back every time I find some "spare time" in my life, and most of you know how that goes (smile). I'd like to say that since I've been back, and every time I come back, I'm delighted to find more and more great writers gracing the TPL stage. I'm so intrigued the the enormous and magnificent talent that lies before us here at TPL. Thanks for being a part, for sharing your work, and for giving critiquers words of great substance to read. I'm come to TPL as both a writer and a critiquer. I honestly believe that the only way to get better at either is to continue on. As a writer, you are made better by reading other poets and writers. As a critiquer, you're made better by the same. I think that the most important thing to remember at TPL is that everyone deserves respect and encouragement. I think that every poem will have its pluses and maybe even a few minuses, but that's what we're here for. My sincere thanks goes out to everyone who sincerely critiques any of my poetry. I take your words and your suggestions to heart, and I seriously revisit critiques here before I allow any of my poetry to find its way into print. So, you help me out a great deal. I've made some great friends here at TPL, and I think you're some of the best people in the world. It's great when we can all come together for the love of poetry. Chris, my hat always goes off to you because you've created a phenomenal site. You're right "Nothing else even comes close" to TPL. Great day all! Keep on writing. Keep on reading in 2005 and beyond. Oh, I invite all of you to come over to my site for a visit. If you have sites of your own, feel free to visit the LINKS sections and add your links. Latorial www.latorialfaison.com

To Tanya Homes I'm sorry I didn't get to know your Mum Donna. I just read the comments (trying to get caught up), and felt that my condolences go out to you, in memory of a Mother who wrote the music to life in poetry. God holds her securely in his loving hands. God Bless, Joanne Morgan

For those of you who remember my mother, Donna Friedrichs, and her poetric contributions to this site, I would like to share that she passed away today. Although she was very ill, she expressed many times the pleasure received both posting and reading the poetry of others.

Hello:Not long ago poetry was dominated by complaint and self-pity:the lament for a lost audience in an age of technology. How quickly that has changed. The prestige of the art has steadily climbed with the help and determination of websites like The Poetic Link.I once read that only poets and people of our beloved government know the power of words.I thank you. Chris, I just wanted to add some tidbits of encouragement and let you know I think you have a goldmine here. I definitely think when the time is right this thing will sky rocket... not like it hasn't.. but you know what i mean.. I am impressed with how well it runs on its own, And I really like how the emphasis is on critiquing... this truly develops a writer's skills... makes one focus on much more than produce, produce produce... makes one really get into reading, reading and rereading getting into the poems...thinking and getting to know more and more about the authors... a truly great site! I was wondering, have you ever thought of presenting your site to college classes? or even perhaps high schools ? I remember when I took different classes in college that we would have to post on different forums, I could see that somehow maybe you could work out an arrangement to be linked with specific universities? or have a section for students? perhaps the universities could provide some of the funding needed? an idea? place to look? we are all learning right? don't give up hope... we are all in this together! Thanks for all your hard work and dedication!, Mandie Overocker

Greetings, This is regarding the poetry.com website and contest. I am posting here since poetry.com doen't have a forum. Last year I came across the "poetry.com" website. It seemed like a great idea - A place to post poems and to get feed-back. Well I happened to mention it to my mother-in-law who had written peotry. I helped her submit two poems. About a month later she received a letter which stated that her poem was selected as a semi-finalist in thier international poetry contest. It went on to state that her poem would be published in a coffee table poetry book if she paid 59.95. Anyway, she was flattered but declined to buy the book. Anyway, A couple of months later, I decided to do an experiment. I took a list of magnetic words from a childrens board game and randomly selected the words one at a time to write a poem. The result, of course, was ungrammatical nonsense. A month later I received a letter which said "After carefully reading and discussing your poem, our Selection Committe has certified your poem as a semifinalistin our International Poetry Contest...) It went on to offer to have my poem included in the coffee table edition of "Letters from the Soul" for $59.95. I'm all for people making a buck but too me this is a scam in that it is a lie. There is no way anyone "read and discussed" my poem. Any one willing to see for themselves can go to poetry.com and read my "poem" It is called "The Proof" Good Luck with your site, it sounds like it is the real thing... Richard Sentochnik

Hello everyone! I couldn't stand silence one more minute. The latest comment was back in July, 2002. So -- a few words of encouragement for anyone stopping by: This is a great website!! True, it's not perfect, and true, we sometimes have our problems. But overall, it is a GREAT place to submit poems, to read new poetry of contributors and add your comments. Many of you who are 'old friends' on the site know I came here over two years ago, and have written a lot of poems touching upon grief, as I've lost family members, as have many others. Writing about my experience has been healing and rewarding for me. I also had never displayed my poetry anywhere, thinking it was perhaps too personal, overly sentimental, etc. Those things are probably true, but publishing here opened doors for me. I began to write in earnest, submitted the 'good' along with the 'bad' - got a lot of very helpful feedback, began to take writing courses, branch out, critique the poems of others. Since coming to TPL, my confidence has increased mostly due to feedback and the monthly contests. I've begun to submit work to other venues with some modest successes. I'm in the process now of putting together my first chapbook, and I plan to self-publish it. It all happened because of TPL and the terrific folks who participate. This is my way of saying "thank you" to Chris, and to everyone. I want to encourage full participation by 'oldies' and especially invite new people to venture into the world of TPL. One of the thrills for me in continuing participation since July of 2000 is reading some of the outstanding 'new voices' on this website, so I encourage new people to continue to join. It's a friendly place, and you've got nothing to lose but $3.00 and a few minutes of your time. And you just might make the discovery of a lifetime. Best to all, Joanne

I was recently checking out Poetry.com and found their winners list. I checked the poems that win their contests and found that several of the "winners" of these huge money prizes are poems whose length doesn't even follow the guidelines and criteria given for submitting. The strict line limit of 20 lines. The last winner of $20,000 is named Jacqueline Bray who submitted the poem "LEDA AND THE SWAN". Interestingly enough - the poem has 40 lines - twice the number of lines. How can this makes sense? Poetry.com is the biggest scam you'll ever find on poetry anywhere. They even run a parallel site photography.com that invites people to send in pictures into another scam of a contest. The Poetic Link may not give away thousands of dollars each month but it does give away a few thousand dollars each year to its participants. The Poetic Link is far greater than other sites you might come across because it really does offer interaction and learning and feedback you won't find anywhere else.

I'd like to thank the few readers who had a chance to read "What Blue Eyes Can't See . . . For Pecola Breedlove." I'm totally shocked that it made the top five. Let's hope it can stay there. It's been a great month, and I've read some great poetry this time around as well. I, too, will be on vacation in mid July visiting family and having a few poetry readings as well as book signings. I'm taking my laptop, so I hope to get online a few nights to calm my nerves (smile) and submit some new poetry. Take care, and thanks for making TPL one of the greatest poetry sites on the net!
