Nothing Ventured It’s not always as it seems or appears In life there is the Yin and the Yang There is always opposing forces of High tide and low There is not always a winner, and you Can’t always have your ducks neatly lined up Or your perfume bottles arranged so Or your bed made every day Water swirls one way in the North And the opposite way in the South The two opposing forces faced each other One a wizened old man his age undetectable The other much younger just out of knee pants One side experience The other brazen enough to be bold They fought for one hour Each one sweating Each one taking his time The pieces clicked on the marble board Black Bishop takes white Queen White Rook takes Black Queen A draw is declared No lives lost Grandfather and grandson kiss And shake hands And go for a soda Why can’t the world be more like that? |
Additional Notes:
Couldn't sleep. It's 1220 am. I should be in bed, but it's been said that a poet and his soul
never sleeps (or did I just make that up?).
