The Unregained

I'm not remembering you; a chance meeting on the street  we pause hesitantly to greet synchronizing steps trying to collect bits from the past which do not connect to place, memory or circumstance. We converse  the universe between of the not-remembered and the half-forgotten, not joy not pain not past not present; bank verse we share small-talk agenda less, still minutes later both wondering who is this perching there on the surface of the past not strong enough to penetrate all the way to consciousness. I can no longer stand the discomfort and the not knowing robbed I of attitude, perspective or point of view my choice is to walk away by blank thought suspended fleeing the scene by unmemory overcome. She sustained even as my face averted more capable and comfortable with memory uncertain and potentialities where sudden recall can on-rush bring love or crushing pain either one to be submitted to the half-forgotten and the unregained.
