MY WISH, MY LOVE

If some day you should awaken   to find the Lord my soul has taken, I'd wish for you to ne'er be sad,   but celebrate the life we've had. You'd mourn for me but yet I trust,   that with God's help you would adjust. I pray the Lord would comfort you,   that somehow you would make it through. Realize our time is gone,   return to life and travel on. And if someone you'd find to love,   I'd smile on you from heaven above. These are the things that you must do,   if ever I am lost to you. Rest assured my words are true,   but other things I wish for you. I really wish this for our life,   to travel on as man and wife. To live and love with you each day,   and never, ever go away. And with God's grace this will apply,    we'll be forever, you and I.

Additional Notes:
This poem is written for the boy I met at 16, married at 18, had three children with before either of us reached the age of 21, and who, to this day, remains the best thing that ever happened in my life. My wonderful husband of 42 years, and hopefully many, many more.
