Autumn Obscurity

Dead foliage from the tall cedar trees drifts Down the black river running through my heart. The dark water carves through the ancient red rock,  Forming steep cliff embankments that I wander. I climb across a fallen cedar That grew roots too close to river's edge.   I fall, tumbling through the darkness of my heart, Over waterfalls and rapids void of salmon. Razor claws pierce through the nape of my neck. The searing pain quickly brings me to conscience. My bloodied skin tightens under the strain of my weight As the eagle yanks me up from my darkness. Naked, I squirm, trying to break free,  Before realizing the fall would kill me. I look down the valley, the black river of death, And trace its path to the cold lake that calls me. I see a pale speck that is you, floating naked in the blue,  Far from the shoreline and lifeless. The claws rip through me, I fall, I scream.   Until a wind-splintered cedar pierces through me.
