Becoming (For My Daughter) Every day I see you growing, changing. Rhythyms of responsibility Illuminate the spark of maturity, Call attention to the inescapable Arrival of womanhood. Lest I be caught napping And miss the inevitable, I peer closely. Nuances so subtle as to be Earmarked for later scrutiny. Better that I watch the evolution As an interested bystander, Dusting off the pangs of separation, Giving out yeas and nays, Elicited or not. Releasing you to stand alone, undaunted. |
Additional Notes:
This came to me in my sleep and I got up and wrote it down without thinking. The really amazing thing is that the first letter of every line spells my daughter's full name....Erica Laine Badger. This was not a thought out thing. It just happened.
