Echoes From The Past

I hid under the covers Hoping he wouldn’t  Notice me I was the youngest He crept in under the blankets and told me                                   “It’s our secret.” His liquor sodden breath Almost consumed me as His hands roamed over my body I was only six years old He took my hand and placed it On his body I wanted to scream but he told me, “I’m your father. I love you. This is our little secret.” I was only six years old When he finished I got up and showered Again, and again, and again I still shower  Again, and again, and again I am now 30

Additional Notes:
7 out of 10 women are sexually assaulted in their lifetime. Only 3 out of 10 report rape. Flashbacks haunt the women almost forever. Many never get over it. The above poem represents a compilation of the many women I've counselled over 14 years of psychiatric nursing.
