Co-Pilots

Breathe with me here, words and lines, lungs filling with oxygen deeply, exhale now slowly lovingly. Now let's do it again. This time let's expand our effort as much as we possibly can, getting all the air, all the way into our lungs holding it in, and holding it in; now exhale all the way, all the way out, all the way out again. Nothing is more intimate than exhalations spent. Our lover breathes beside us, breath is our first word in life and the last. Breath is proximity. The poetic line breathes; tuning most often to the heart's beat; 2/4 time? Together they are mind and body's co-pilots on the Imaginative journey's life. Held back, shallow breathing is poetry denied; no music in light breath only dissonance and quiet. So true in all things: no breath no life no breath no romance no breath no release. no breath no ecstasy. Too short lines of breathing truncates, difficult to poetize. Ahhh.... is not just a word  it is the sound of all life breathing our ancestors stepping upon the shore from oceans, took our first breaths symbolically. It is the heart's beating in musical air flight; that prompts our breathing-- hold it back  the heart retreats to where there is no  poetry or life. We are thinking animals who respirate ancient cadences beating, our heritage lies in respirating not in shallow breaths unbreathed.
