Emerging

Spiced with your personality and experience, you paint your dreams upon her life, hoping she will reproduce the essence of you amidst the iridescence of youth. You envision a butterfly...she sees herself a worm. Childhood fades as she inches forward  upon the branch of life;  suddenly falling, feeling clumsy,  she climbs back up to find her place. You spin a cocoon of security...she struggles to break free. Threads of discipline hold her tightly.  Words of correction mesh with words of praise, until she is ready to emerge in her own pattern;  potential spreading gossamer wings in flight. You let go of final thread...she soars in flight to womanhood. As separation from cocoon is complete, subdued shades of a mother's patience,  stenciled upon her heart with love's brush, reflect in the soft hues of her wings. You watch in wonder...she exceeds all expectations. Within her wings, an opaque outline remains,  past mistakes, now pale to the bright blush  of new maturity, molded by your ethics,  carefully etched in her mind as a child. You proclaim..."that's my daughter, look what she's become."
