Firefly Picnic

C'mon, sleepy head, Mama says get into your pajamas quick The sun is setting, its twilight time Let's have  a firefly pic-nic. I laugh out loud, and don my gown grab the hand of my little brother we get the basket from under the stairs and follow the lead of our mother. The moon is cold and bright the breeze causes me to shiver Mama wraps me in a long, warm hug as the fireflies start to glitter. She pours my tea into a paper cup, fine china has no place, I look up and smile at the stars above and the love on Mama's face. Soft strains of music float from somewhere near, the lights begin to twirl, Mama tells us giant tales, from when she was a little girl. Cupcake crumbs litter the lawn, brother is falling asleep, I snuggle deep into Mama's lap tucking memories in to keep. My eyes begin to burn with the dreamer's grains of sand Daddy picks up brother and I hold Mama's hand. We journey back to our bedroom the stars on the ceiling glow, reminding me of our firefly picnic, and my parent's who love me so.
