Shopping in Mary's Poetry Store...

...Where Everything is Free - (If You Are!) In Mary's store, you'll find some iambs, each two syllables, for populating pretty poems or stories poets tell. She'll give you thousands of those iambs but they must stay in line and hold to perfect metric plan or else you pay a fine! Mary has some trochees,  cute as is their name, to be used just like the iambs (though the stress is not the same). She'll let you have one hundred trochees, just keep them on the path. Wrongly write these little birds and suffer Mary's wrath. Mary has some spondees,  keeps them on the shelf. If you feel the need of some, she says, "Just help yourself!" Of their use, take gracious care if you expect success because each has two syllables and both are under stress! Mary has some anapests, syllabic count of three. You can use them if you wish. There isn't any fee. You may keep them for a while, she'll not intervene. But badly use those anapests and Mary makes a scene! Mary has some dactyls,  keeps them in a cage. They jump around like acrobats, sometimes right off the page. They're very difficult to use, not really very tame. Misplace the accent on this bird, your poems come up lame! Mary has some pyrrhic feet  that aren't very runny. Oh, they're not Mary's OWN two feet (now, wouldn't that be funny?) You can dance with pyrrhic feet because there is no stress. Careful where you place those feet. (Could make quite a mess!) She has barrels full of meter from mono- up to hex- (And in the back, both hept- and oct- for poems more complex.) Mary's store is amply stocked with everything  you'll need to write the very best of poems that anyone will read.
