The Storm

My eyes were cold, my pupils black And day was always night. I cried but tears in conflict fell Through eyes that had no sight. The western sky attacked the east Above my mortal pain. The clouds condensed and showed the road As tears were drowned by rain. Advancing to the endless place Where time is built in stone, I found myself outside its walls, And found myself alone. I stumbled through the door’s dead weight And fell across the floor. A flame of light then lit my eyes Which blindness can’t ignore. So I sat down in forever And had some time to think. I looked around and there I found, What brought me to this brink. The light atop the steeple’s crown Came falling down the stairs. And sent me climbing through my life And out of my despairs. I reached the top and saw below A fate as tall as time. The edge was thin, I grabbed the bells That held me with their chime. I trembled so and held a breath That choked me as I cried. I clung so hard and fought a wind That wished I had complied. Then out it came, out from the rain, In with happy mess. It split my eyes which pacified The time and its abyss. I swung around, and balance gone, Saw the zealous dove. I turned and slipped past time and fate And so I fell in love.
