Farewell Old Friend

You were built as silently as you sailed No brass bands or celebration Keel was laid without a hitch To sail peacefully on the seven seas Silent and gray To serve and protect in the hour of need Your scars are all hidden and healed All that remains now of your fight Is a bronze plaque in the main passageway That glows proudly throughout the night A beacon,a memento,a list of names Of those men who gave their all Groaning and listing All through the night Your subordinates fought valiantly to save you For they loved you with all their might Your passageways are all empty and silent now Dimly lit here and there Decomissioned, silent and dusty But yet still alive somehow Soon to be sold as scrap Silently as you were made Silently as you sailed Silently you will go It is time For your sun to set Mighty warrior that you are You have sailed with the best Now your keel Will be laid to rest USS STARK,I salute you And bid thee fairwell May you and your crew sail always onward As you take your last journey Through the stars and beyond Fairwell, old friend Fairwell
