THE RECITAL

Black and white keys 'Neath stage lights well framed, Await the soft touch  Of gloved fingers untamed. The orchestra bustles In practice of scales, Under chandelier's facets Posh posturing prevails. The gent that will grace The red velvet seat, Preens at the mirror His face now complete. Cherry red nose On a background of white, Hat of odd patches Grey hair quite the sight. With a wink and a smile To the piano he bounds, This musical, whimsical Lovable clown. Spotlight upon him He waves all around, Facing the keyboard He slides himself down. A cushion of whoopie Did such a noise make, Fingers poised in mid flight Smile frozen on face. The rhinestones are gasping At this turn of affair, Cumberbunds stretching With the intake of air. It began with a twitter Progressed to a laugh, Soon black ties and tiaras Are doubled in half. No Bach or Beethoven This night would allow, But a dose of reality From the wit of a clown.
