After We Loved

In the grey silence, after we loved, I lay there bleeding. You had captured my soul then stepped rudely on my heart. Now the soft, steady breath of sleep reminds me there are no backward steps. Our lives move on, inexorably, at times against desire and never in synchronicity. Is together so difficult, so hard, it seems like stones? Once, it was as easy as sand, grains shifting but never alone. Someone introduced the wind and now, we are nowhere to be found.
