FREEDOM ISN'T FREE

Each morning as I watch the news, I am presented with differing views Of the current Iraq war  To keep up to date, and what's more I listen to opposing sides And then I must, myself, decide Where I stand and what I believe. No easy task, no indeed! If I look back in history, There really is no mystery Of how our freedom came to be. Freedom has never been had for free! Wars have been fought to make us free; Granting liberty to you and me. Lives have been lost for this way of life, We've been through stress, and lived with strife. Freedom extracts an awful price, It's never attained without sacrifice. Freedom has never been had for free, It comes with a cost, do you not see? I marvel that there are those who'll pay With their lives, to keep our freedom this way. They willingly pay freedom's price; Some with the ultimate sacrifice. The blood of many is on the earth From those who thought freedom was certainly worth Any price they were required to pay, For the freedom we have in this country today. I pray that the Lord will take special care Of those who fight, and those who dare To defend the liberty of all; For those who answer freedom's call. They risk their lives for you and me,   Knowing full well freedom's never been free.
