Me an' Amazin' Jane

(with apologies to Kenny Rogers) Toolin' down the highway --  jest th’ good old 101. Lookin’ for a place to rest my bones, From a Crescent City lighthouse, to the cliffs of Pismo Beach Feelin’ like my head is filled with stones. Pretty as a picture, I saw her wave at me, Red hair flowing, looking for a lift Sumpthin’ like an angel girl and sumpthin’ like a waif Standing on the sharp side of a cliff. I put her and her back-pack in my Rusty old red Honda Asked her nice and softly for her name “I’m Jane Day,”  she whispers “..and I’m goin’ way down to Oxnard. Is that anywhere along your way?” The sign said, “Drivers. Caution! For the next nine miles or ten do not give a hitchhiker a ride,” and I didn’t know enough back then To know that meant a prison...when I turned to feel a pistol in my side.   So we went to Escondido And we picked up forty grand That was only vegetatin’ in a bank And I bless the day I found her As we romp in Mexico Drinkin’ margaritas on the sand. Oh! “Caution’s” jest  another word For nothin’ left to learn Caution don’t mean nothing good at all We’ll jest sit and rest a spell  Amazin’ Jane and me as well And meet up with sweet Mischa in the Fall.
