The Snake In The Tree

THE SNAKE IN THE TREE I’m sick and tired of home style meals, We’ll have ourselves a treat. I looked out at the coconut tree, It stood near fifty feet I asked my husband nicely If he could get one down, “What with,” he asked inquiringly, His rugged face, a frown "We’ll get the ladder, stretch it out, I’m sure that it will reach Then you can climb right to the top, We'll have coconuts for sweets" Our ladder stretched to forty feet, When it was all unwound Up to the top Bob went with ease, Then looked back at the ground. One arm went out around the tree, And one was spread right out. Just as he held a coconut, He gave a mighty shout. A snake had fallen from the branch, And wound around his neck, Its tail start flipping round his knees, "I'm getting down by heck" "If you still want the coconuts,  I’ll not go up that tree. You can go outside and shoot them down", "YOU CAN USE THE 303". Well out I went with gun in hand, I shot a couple down. I only milked just one of them Before they hit the ground. We sat and chewed on coconuts  And thought a few things out What dangerous things could happen When there's no one else about Maybe we'd better move to town  We pondered our lifestyle We loved the isolation  And said "no, we'll stay a while" Thelma Claydon  c

Additional Notes:
This did happen on Munmalary Station out in Arnham land where we had a few near misses with situations that could have been quite dangerous, we nearly got drowned in the floods once and then 3 of our 4 dogs got bitten by a western brown snake and were all dead within twenty minutes, there are more tales to come about this place
