The Day After Mardi Gras

What forms do demons take in this parade of after-thought? Are those imps with yellow eyes or merely daffodils, early to Spring? From the corner of my eye I watch slim trees (or maybe tall elves)  waving farewell to indulgence. There are masks and there are masques, both fitting high cheek-bones, neither hiding all of a face. (the eyes are always exposed) Once, a harlequin danced past followed (in perfect rank and rhyme) by one elephant, two clowns, three jesters and six coins of the realm. Bringing up the rear, there came a gaggle of hapless orphans and other miscellaneous geese, each with a broom, none with a shovel. (After all, there was only one elephant!)
