To A Daughter Leaving for College You're standing in the doorway About to take your leave, Saying volumes without speaking While tugging at your sleeve. I know it's time to let you go To seek your destiny. This day came sooner than I thought And much too soon for me. I still remember all the times I wiped your tears away, And all the times I held you tight, Your bad dreams to allay. Now you stand there with shining eyes And comfort me instead, While I...I must ignore my fears And keep my tears unshed. Just one more hug and then you're off--- The time has come to part. Leave behind your childhood days, But take with you my heart. |
