Coming Off The Fence

Add one more vote to a list that is growing Of poets who think it best To roll back days in the dark, of not knowing How a poem stacks up to the rest. Add one more vote to the many who think Poets need voting power that's  fair Before we are driven to imbibe strong drink Or drive our best poets elsewhere. It is easy to say this, or that. or we "ought" To make changes again, or not. Just let's all give it some serious thought Before our new course we plot. Input from those who've worked hard in the past Is needed, along with "insight" If our hard won success as "best" is to last And not fade into darkness of night. For a poet who, admittedly, has stayed on the fence A difficult decicison, to make this choice To climb down and take up a cause, in defense Of my rights, my say, my voice.
