Rococo

Greeted at the blushing door of Madame Beauchamp I was accosted by the whimsical pageant into a luxurious landscape of flowers  and delicate scrolls in glowing pastel colors. Precisely placed  mirrors directed pliant light upward; shadows became enlivenly intangible.  The reflections blurred in this dream of certainty as I silently passed other beautiful guests. Reeling peels of laughter wound their way down the hall through the frolicking utopia, to my ears. I was led to a gracefully arched passageway   past elegant and ingenious metal sculptures. Entering a room where everything glitters I noted Jean-HonorĂ© Fragonard graced the wall. Madame Beauchamp, sat adorned by all around her, with gaiety apparent in her twinkling eye. My collar seemed to tighten around my dry throat: I was blinded by this meridional creature with the queenly complexion, fine and transparent. The golden room began to close in around me. A glittering but frivolous exchange ensued, a moment of beautiful sensuality. Dinner was announced and I privately wondered if the squab on my plate would also be gilded.  Alas, it was not, but it wore gold-trimmed booties. The wine freely flowed, and Madame freely spoke and her guests all enjoyed the rococo paradise of that magical evening she offered to us. Madame Beauchamp entertained her guests lavishly and had the artful notion to captivate the  eye and fancy of those present at her table. Banality, a sign of the times was well cloaked.

Additional Notes:
scroll down for the last stanza... The term rococo comes from the French rocaille and coquilles, "pebbles and shells."
