JOY

Return to me, oh nymphet, sprite, Sweet substance of a smile. Joy, essence of Spring's soul, Step with me yet awhile.   Youth and Beauty (Vanity's twins), Both flew away Sometime ago, or Yesterday. Joy, you escaped Through a window left Open for Contentment Then closed to Winter's chill. Despite bitter cold, I sit still beside the embers Of Hope that barely warm  A heart grown old. Slow of gait, bent, hollow, I must follow Uncertainty's path Into deep shadows where Memory seeks lost Joy. Return to me, oh nymphet, sprite, Sweet substance of a smile. Joy, essence of  Spring's soul, Step with me yet awhile.
