Amanda And Me

Steady downpour, days of rain, the waves rolling in with vivacity as I stroll along the shoreline. Voices of curlews and terns waver in the mist and their sad calls drift out to sea. I stoop for a tawny shell, the color of her hair, curly tresses always out of place, wisping round her face. A shadow in a wave reminds me of the contour of her profile and I almost expect the pressure of her slim hand on my arm. Reeds in a pool of quiet shallows are the shade of green she favored, reflecting the color of her eyes, green as the mists of Ireland. They were wide-eyed with surprise at the wonders of life, showing her intrinsic innocence. Remembering times we shared, never to hear her fairy laugh again, I walk on, mist clouding my eyes. Today for the first time, Amanda's spirit  has been with me. Is this a singular event or will my fey friend come again? I pray she will return as my life without her leaves me short of breath          to speak and weak.            Cold, bereft:       no music left in my soul.

Additional Notes:
Amanda died unexpectedly following a brief illness. I miss her terribly.
