Reflection of Love

Instead of someone else's words  written from someone else's heart  I took time to remember  those special moments daily lovin' unnoticed all the little things you do for me each day  It's not the great sacrifices  that make your love special  it's those tender looks  unexpected embraces  playful little hugs  and gentle kisses  that keep my heart hopelessly yours Thirty-five years have blown through  corridors of our lives  sometimes blowin' like a hurricane  then gentlin' down  we find strength in each other  kissin' our hearts  soothin' our frustration  love we couldn't find alone I'm sorry, dear, for all the days  I tried to make it on my own  afraid to trust  the warmth of your touch  afraid to let go   surrendering 'me' to 'us'  Lost in our passion fear still rises  after all these years threatening my dreams  telling me you'll never look past  the veneer of my insecurity  to love me completely Then I look into your eyes  to see our hope reflected there  love shinin'  more brightly  more deeply  then it did the day we pledged  to share our love forever

Additional Notes:
I wrote this for the only love of my life--the man I married 35 years ago today. He likes to keep it simple and to the point--nothing too profound. (: I made an anniversary card from this piece and the tenderness in his eyes when he read it, silently said all I needed. He doesn't mind me sharing it and perhaps it will remind someone else of the simplicity of love--sometimes taken for granted.
