Fall's Hope

Locked fast in ennui's grasp, I sigh Against the languid, humid heat And sameness of these summer days. Socked in by steady thermal highs, Entire cities sear under dome-like Envelopes of thick, white, smoky haze. Like clockwork, each afternoon the skies darken, rumble.   All else is hushed, quiet, In anticipation of some small relief. Electricity streaks on horizon; winds rise. Thunder booms a beat in distant measure. Spates of rain pour down, torrentially brief. Too quickly, relentless Sol returns and dries All to dust again.  Any evidence of  change Soon shrivels in his angry, white-hot glare. Summer lasts forever here. Even weary fireflies Dream of cool, crisp, shortened days and swirls Of colored autumn leaves flying in the air.

Additional Notes:
I, like the fireflies, dream of those cool, crisp autumn days that seem so far away...The sameness of the humid heat and daily afternoon thunder boomers followed by the sun's reappearance (hotter than before the storm) has put me in a blue funk mood...And did I mention we have swarms of large mosquitoes that must have migrated from Alaska to S.C.
