Ghosts and Angels "Forgivin' ain’t that easy." The words growled Like gravel Out of his booze scarred throat. "The gettin' or the givin'." His hands shook as he lifted The half-full coffee. He had quit drinking too late. "Them ghosts is stubborn." Rheumy eyes twinkled And he wheezed out a laugh That collapsed into a wracking cough. "But I’m gonna do it!" He swept his arms towards the invisible crowd, "I’m gonna forgive every damn one of 'em! I’ll turn all them ghosts into angels!" I walked home shivering wondering about ghosts, And angels, And the power of forgiveness. |
