Enraptured Waves crashed the strand making the rocky bottom sing out with sighs. Gulls fretted about where to land for their next meal. The sea is angry with me now. It spat its white froth curling its lips and snuck back out to resume its relentless strike against the eroding shore. The black capped sky o’er the Olympics hurled its clouds at me while black Cormorants waved their wings on the rocks waiting for the seal to make his move, and show them the way to their next delight In tandem the black and whites were causing a ruckus. Plumes of water filled the air. Orcas danced on the water to my delight, but probably not to the seals. Seen through my 7 x 25 I marveled at the rumba like movements of the pod, spouting from their blow-holes telling their position while lifting themselves high to show their markings. darkness set its cover and I had to go home in total awe of one of nature’s grandest creatures. |
Additional Notes:
The Olympics refers to the Olympic Mountains of Washington State which I can view from where I
live. They are only 10 kms away across the Juan de Fuca Strait (I am on the Canadian side in
British Columbia).
7 x 25 refers to my Binoculars strength.
Cormorants dry their wings out by standing and spreading them full out. They need to be dry in
order for them not to have drag while they dive (which makes them go deeper).
