Summer Meditation

A murmur emerges from the morning,                      Speaking of ancient sanctuary                         And peace from ages past.                 Faint birdsong from some forgotten Eden                       Provides a soothing melody                        To while away the hours.                  Pausing pensive in a sun-soaked meadow,                     Looking homeward, I think of thee,                        And hold our friendship fast.                     I reflect on the secret of summer                        Amidst a drift of honeybees                        Drunk on wine from flowers,                  While a whisper from the wind reminds me                        That everything is temporary                         And must be loved to last.
