The Medium

I knew I had to call him this friend of mine of some  years, and I did Reached out 8000 kms bouncing my way along satellite dishes bouncing back their signals. I knew something was wrong as I hadn’t heard from  him in months. My friend for some 50 years. How can I ever explain the kinship I have with him? Long ago we met and Faced the same challenges of being alone, and away from home in  new surroundings of learning In red bricked buildings, smooth green carpet lawns and Professors from England, and new foods, and smells. Of being stashed in our rooms after hours to study  through mazes of authors we had never heard of.  Then years later we graduated and went our separate ways only to come together via the medium and Six points of separation. Our last encounter last year when we drank in our class  reunion. Hail to the class of ’53 we toasted each other while our wives beamed  broadly. Pictures, and tears, and hugs We separated yet again. Now he’s dying, in some hospital far away I cannot get to. But, the medium is there God speed my dear friend. Until we Meet again through another medium.
