The Miremartyrs

The Miremartyrs Some misery is too precious; Fearful hands clutched tight, ’Round tarnished gold of memories Cast in a twisted mold, And filled with mourning’s night. Too dear to them, their sorrows; An exalted thorny crown, Upon brow’s fix’ed holy strain With bitterness so pitted, Pulled deep from wells of pain. Grafts of grief to mend dry bones, Fresh blood for weeping wounds, Enchanted words of spite and doubt; Light choked out by mordant ash The cyclic rite exhumes. For what grave purpose to meet? What salvation to earn? Self-sacrificed on the altar, In acrimonious worship, Blades to their own throats; A hell in which to burn. Life so unbecomes them, Defiled by these dead, Who reject the gift been given, Mistook its love for hate, Found the Giver cruel; Benevolence stained red. How pitied, these Miremartyrs, And sorry is their state Souls lost in murky waters, Searching for a shore, To wash their sin upon; The tumult to abate. Yet hope they cannot hear, With faithless eyes they see, Naught but hate and darkness, Distress and misery. Though the dawn is rising, Their noonday sun has set; Though the springs are gushing, Their thirsting goes unmet. So Mercy’s heart is stricken, Compassion wails aloud And pleads the Voice be harkened, Whose words remove the shroud. And pray from death to dying, From dying to death—be free Courage by which to cut the cord; Hyrdra’s poisoned child, Corrupted in the womb, Condemned by just decree. Reborn through pain of losing, Their demon-haunted past; The Balm which posed a threat, Shall heal their sores at last. Lonely Mire’s Martyrs, Deception’s grand crusade, Marches its throngs of soldiers, To annihilation’s grave; A crushing debt to settle, Which one Libation paid.
