Depression:my oldest companion

cold hungry shadow always close behind waiting to suck up all my light devour my mind then place your gruesome cheek like a lover next to mine I remember you ever since I was very young lurking in corners and closets holding onto that dirty blanket with your rotting flesh hands cold frightening eyes and deadly frozen grin waiting to pounce- you were so much stronger than me how quickly you could bring me to my knees wrap me up so tightly in that awful blanket and hold me there so firmly in that icy grip & crushing dead weight sometimes I'd get angry and struggle inside my filthy cocoon but you'd kick me- sharp blows over and over until bloody and broken I'd succumb to your power and just lay there on the hard cold floor with pieces of my heart scattered everywhere and my shallow barely breathing breath shivering in the cold shadow of you hovering over me looking so very pleased with yourself
