A Sanity in Hope Abides

When life knows neither left from right, nor night from day, nor depth from height; When time forgets its steady hand, And spills in drops of quickened sand; When all is mist till sun divides, A sanity in Hope abides. How dull and stale life would be without the salt of unpleasantry; If sweets were all that fed our frame, our health would ebb, our strength would wane; Though bitter be the costly fruit, delicious is its hidden root. O pleasant is thrown the blade of life That hones us through our pain and strife, And finer the point of its gladness gleams, When loss with sterling coin redeems; Blessings gather in the mist, Where earth and heaven's lips have kissed. Adventurous and yet unsure, Is the draw of life's allure; Difficult and 'oft unfair, Is the gauntlet of its dare; True and worthy of its test, Is its ever grateful guest. Sanity in Hope abides, A vessel through the storm that rides, Though threat of death does rage and break, And terror's waves our ship may take, No tangled fog of fear shall smite, The course of faith's unbending light.

Additional Notes:
Ok people, I need your honest feedback here. I really like the first stanza, and the last has some appeal to me, but I am not sure that I like the rest of it. Comparatively, it seems a bit trite. Please, what do you think-should I leave it out and go solely with the first stanza? Also, any suggestions as to punctuation (ie. commas and semicolons) would be greatly appreciated. Note: the break in my rhythm in the 5th stanza is intentional-conclusional transition.
