The Circle of Life Shipped out Warrant Officer William Caldwell of the Canadian Army went to war on the S.S. Narista It was a troop carrier in 1941 The U-Boats found her and 200 troops went to their graves Plucked from the wreckage that was washed ashore was this soldiers dog tag and a baby’s ring attached It was mailed to Canada and misfiled by an Army clerk A researcher found the ring 60 years later, and started an investigation He found the soldier’s daughter born just a couple of weeks after her father shipped out It’s strange how things happen We don’t even know why And now the daughter knows her father in a strange almost forgotten way |
Additional Notes:
It's strange alright. After I had published the poem "Mystery Solved" about a ring that had been
found, this one appeared . The Lady's name is Vicki Brown who now lives in Raleigh, N.C. The curator of the
Canadian War Museum tracked her down, and presented her with the ring. The cord that held the ring together
with his dog tags was still intact. Amazing but true!
