London Bridges

Where are the people? Where are the bridges? Where are the churches? Where are the religions? Where are the terrorists? Where are the bombs? Where are the leaders? Where are the alarms? Where are the nations? Where are the pacts? Where are the weapons? Where are the facts?

Remember the song "Where have all the flowers gone?". Where are the nations?............they are all there Where are the pacts?..............gathering dust Where are the weapons?............becoming more and more powerful in the wrong hands Where are the facts?..............like the song, gone to graveyards everyone. My next line would have been: where is God? In the Old Testament anyway, God apparently spoke to people...now it seems God only speaks to Schizophrenics. Think I'll write something on that. What do you think.? Very aptly titled piece and well laid out. Got me thinking (which can be good or bad). Thanks so much.

Latorial--Where indeed!! These are some serious no bull.... queries addressed in this list poem. And, the title-Wow! There's no mistaking the comparison to the original "...Falling Down." As usual you've not backed off/away from controversial topics directly affecting the doleful condition of the world. These rhetorical questions are quite valuable, but their answers are priceless!! keep planting seeds. TLW

Where are the facts indeed! Nice antidote to the reactionary people who are so blinded with rage they fail to acknowledge the hunmanity and pain of others. Interesting poem - well constructed and wise. To peace! Rach

Hi Latorial, The bomb blasts in London came as a terrible surprise to my family here in India, when the news began breaking. My grandmother lives in London and the thought of terror in her city made us worry. We were able to get in touch with her later in the day and were glad to find that all was well. Sadly though, there were deaths and many more casualties. Someone may have lost a mother, someone may have lost her husband....the tragedy of it all is depressing. Terrorism has eaten its way into the fabric of peaceful society and with no definite answer to its curse, all we innocents have are questions that give birth to more questions. Your poem London Bridges, creates a link of consolation, encouragement and support to the innocent people of London and raises a volley of questions. The backdrop to these questions is confusion. From religion, leadership, factual evidences, nationalities, etc to weaponry, alarms systems, peace pacts and terrorists themselves, the questions become cyclic in nature and merely pile up. Infact, the manner in which the piece is presented represents a kind of stagnation....it seems to go nowhere, which as intended raises a bigger question over the heads of our leaders? The summary question to all of this would be "what on earth is going on?". The social relevance of the piece shines through!! Take care, Duane.

Like everything else that involves terrorist, destruction, loss of life, power and control......out of control is where everything is.......good structure poet and your questions bring forth more questions that each reader should sit and ponder on for it could have been once more our country under attack and most likely this is not the end of such horrible acts..........no one is in hidding though and that is good, fear might fill ones heart but life has gone on after a short time of recouping........Where is love that it is no longer across any land, standing together for what they might intend freedom to be......when one rises in the morning light, gets their family ready for school, work, appointments, who stops to think this might be the last time we are together .....one last hug, one last kiss......one last moment of love. Okay, enough from me, I am like a river flowing with no end on this subject......thank you for posting and sharing with us. Be safe poet, God Bless, Claire

Hi Latorial, So pleased to see you address this. London Bridges {your titles inference “London Bridges falling down, falling down, etc., is not lost on this reader” Where are the people? Where are the bridges? Where are the churches? Where are the religions? {makes one think doesn’t it, are they there in word only?} Where are the terrorists? Where are the bombs? Where are the leaders? Where are the alarms? {sad, hard to believe that so many haven’t gotten the message, they will come} Where are the nations? Where are the pacts? Where are the weapons? Where are the facts? {yes, where are the facts, the truth, and who is standing up to be counted?} Your presentation leads the reader through the questions, provocative, eliciting a response, inciting emotions. You have run the gamut of questions; both asking and answering by way of a question. The flow is like a river, moving one on and on, and as you have alliterated, is there an end to this that we now must acknowledge as a real presence in everyone’s life. Excellant, I would have expected nothing less from you, thank you for the opportunity to review this work. Lora

Hi Latorial, Yes...where are they? The terrorist we fight have a religion we can't fathom..blowing themselves up in the name of Alla? Where is the sense in that and how can we as a nation defend ourselves against such madness? And where are the weapons of mass destruction? We now have a man in charge who is trying to justify an unprovoked war...where are the facts? You have written such a timely piece and asked every question that is on the minds of all sane people who abhore what is happening in this world today. How sad it all is and I feel sadness plus anger as I read your words...WHERE...such a simple word that says volumes. I think the last stanza is the most poignant of all...where are the nations, where are the pacts, where are the weapons, where are the facts? Very well done and very thought provoking. Blessings...Marilyn
