A Friend

how sweet the tender words of friend that land as saving dew drops whose gentle kiss does mend those lonely wounds whose scars at times grow sore; into life's cup, a loving friend can pour. when joy shouts gayly 'round the halls and laughs, a knowing smile of fond receipt shall dance with sharing friend when fledged hope takes wing; double the joy a caring friend can bring. should shade steal cooly sun's bright path and cast a cobble through the soul's finely tinted pane where broken shards of mingled tears have run, beneath pain's eaves, a trusted friend tells none. at end of journey's last coursed tide wake closed when rigging rests its weathered wind-leathered limbs, a final sigh from deep wells of peace draws contentment's breath, a Treasured Friend its cause.
