YOU NEVER SAY YOU LOVE ME!

We have been together for so long   and yet it seems like just yesterday,   that a high school boy and girl,   caught in the awkward years of teenagehood,   somehow found each other in the crowd.   Perhaps, it was our youthful insecurity   that drew us together,   finding safety, one in the other.   Even in those early days,   we knew that what we shared   was not just a passing thing.   Slowly, patiently, we explored and probed,   learning each other's strengths and flaws.   Those were good times of growing together.   You were the hopeless romantic,   always asking,   "DO YOU LOVE ME?"   I was the philosopher even then,   replying,   "WHO REALLY KNOWS WHAT LOVE IS ANYWAY?"   Well, what ever we had has held us together,   for the better part of our lives.   It has seen us through the good and bad,   the joyful and sad,   Not to mention the challenges of rearing our sons.   Perhaps now, I can tell what love really is.   Love is not one thing   but many things,   moments here and there,   of sharing and caring,   of being comfortable with someone,   of missing them when apart.   Love is giving one's self to another   and putting their welfare and happiness   before personal concerns.   Yes, after all these years,   I can finally say,      I LOVE YOU !
