My Only Son

He entered the world a glorious child Many long hours spent gazing at his perfection Dark curls surrounding his round peaceful face Forever in awe of his energy and his thirst for life That increases with his years Always holding a special place in my heart Just for him My only son Growing apart as each year passes  Unease filling the empty spaces between us Spaces growing ever greater with each passing year Bonds being broken on our lengthening journey through life Where has he gone the little boy so cherished Where have I gone a mother whom longs for her glorious child Seeing one another as we once were In fleeting moments carried on the wind So far out of reach Turn back the clock Turn back to the time when the boy loved his mother A time before he could see all the blemishes  of what i had become Bring back my son Bring him back into my open empty arms Bring him back into my life Show him the special place in my heart, reserved just for him My only son
