The Evil Critiquer

I got the news today.                   It seems my rhyme is out of style.                        I'd hate to see it go.                   We've been together quite awhile.                      The messenger was qualified.                      Lord knows I don't blame her.                         As if to make amends                    she said I had strong character.                 I've found that strength in character                        is something that you get                        endeavoring to persevere                     when things have gone to shit.                     This critiquing Dame among us                        exceeds all but a few.                  But if she takes my rhyme from me,                      pray tell what shall I do?                    A way to ease my tortured mind                      when nothing seems to fit.                       A source of inspiration,                        an outlet for my wit.                       I guess it goes to show                  The Link is no place for the weak.                     And to Madame Critiquer know                     I say this tongue in cheek.                      It's been a good reminder                   of something I should have known.                    Fulfillment comes within you.                    In this world you stand alone.                      For healing or conviction,                      entertainment or for show.                     To all my fellow poets I say                       "Go for what you know".                  Though I may not always praise you                    when I take the time to read.              It's different strokes for different folks.                     We all feel the same need.                  And to the source of inspiration                     that these lines are due.                  When's the last time you had poetry                      written just for you?                   Don't fret or start to worry                   that of you I might be fond.                 I'm just tugging on your chain.                  This'll teach you to respond.                   And as for your suggesting                  that I should give up my rhyme.                 Be patient!  I'm still teething.                   Give me just a little time.                    Someday I might grow up                    to be a poet laureate.                 But that will come much later.                  I'm not ready for that yet.                 The fact I'm in no rush to grow                     shouldn't be a crime.                 So if it's all the same to you,                   I'll just enjoy my rhyme.

A friendly shot at a nice lady who, I'm sure, only meant the best. Smile!
