Embrace of Strength Wake up, Mommy It is lightening, thundering, Storming; outside a battle rages Tearing at my window, And I tremble, for the Clashing noise and light Is terror to my eyes. I’m here, my darling The rain comes down In torrents outside, but With me you shall be safe. Lightening has no power To reach your soft sweetness When I hold you in my arms, my child. Hold me tighter, Mommy My friend lies so still, On the ground A crazy boy gunned her down, In our school, where we felt so safe. Everything seems so dark, so far away. Where shall I go? What shall I do? I’m here, my darling Darkness casts shadows On the innocence of your youth But I promise, with my love, I protect you. In my arms I hold you, even as You grow in strength, my daughter. Thank you, mother For helping me to grow, For protecting my young spirit While nurturing it to maturity. The earth shook around me, But all was stable in your arms. Now I go off alone…what shall I do? You’re welcome, my darling My love goes with you, always And the love of a God Who is a shelter from all storms, A shoulder for all tears… Who gives me my strength, Promises the same to you For when you are weak, Than you are strong, my friend. |
