From The Ground Up

Within the packet lay seeds Dried, setting, endlessly waiting  For the moment to expand and produce  Planted, moistened, up and thriving   Grasping the sun, dancing with the wind, Experiencing day’s warmth and night’s chill Alive to all that existence fulfills Upon completion of their circle of time  They step backward for other new lives To come forward and proceed their days  In praise of all the privilege                                   They have been given

Would that we all be of the same purpose, striving to reach something more than what we were some moments ago. Looking not at life as some Christmas tree, some brass ring to take and win...but to fix upon growing effort, wholly focused on our reach long enough to obtain it. Our objective could require no greater clarity, no more elucidation than just that. For when we achieve one thing perfectly we have that model to apply to the rest of life...instead of becoming just another monument to growth, we could become something for which there is no precedent. And then truely, "Alive to all that existence fufills". For are we not all some seed to greater expectation? A poem, Dellena, that sets off thought. What's better than that? JCH

Hi my friend.....interesting what I find within the lines of this one.....to me it is the beginning of the growing season and plants need planting, gardens need tending and loving care, then we have new life, babies born, loved and cared for and as they too grow into adulthood the cycle of life begins anew. Love the images, the thought of planting beautiful flowers brightens my day and tomatoes fill my tummy too. New granddaughter, Molly is now three months old and doing oh so well........thanks for posting, I pray you are feeling and doing well. I always find reading your poems uplifting.....take care, God Bless, Happy Spring....perhaps it has finally arrived, Claire

I really enjoyed this Dellena and like the new planting of spring, we too arise and are nurished with the coming of spring. I love the way this is written , standing well on its own for what it is, the growing and thriving of plants and natures harvest, but as you well know it stands in metaphore for all we experience. I really like the last stanza. You speak of death is such an honourable and fulfilling sacrid way..enjoyed!

Hi Dellena, and it's spring! the time when we tempt the ground to respond to our care and our attention. This poem metaphorically goes beyond mere gardening to the almost spiritual essence of life on a planet. Are we so different, planted here by whatever fate, destiny, choice or other? More then anything, your poem expresses a gratitude for life and an awareness that nature's cycles are a gift. In the last stanza, personifying nature, praise and privilege seem oddly reflective and not completely connected in systems that make no choices. Strengthen and clarify the metaphors drawn to strengthen the human element or free the natural one. Happy spring to You! Terry
