GRAMPS resubmission

Gramps  79 years young and quite spry Sporting Lorne Greene Sideburns  always engaged in projects at various stages of completion. Never too busy to discuss the flying habits of a grasshoppper, or to define the meaning of an odd word. Always willing to share his knowledge, experience, and possessions to aid in achieving A childs important goals. Calm and collected many times frustrated, but never exasperated, always calmly trying an alternate way to achieve his goal, without surrendering to haste for expediency.    As independent as flowing water and as judgmental as a spring breeze, Passing time through various stages Of interaction with his environment, Interpreting his love of his surroundings Through the medium of his art. Content to be himself and secure in the path he has chosen and the life he has led.  Never disparaging others, respectful of the earth that sustains him.   Speculating on the vastness of the heavens and intrigued  by the mound building talents of the ant. Inquiring about everything without  questioning the veracity of individual beliefs.   Living with the magnanimous belief of equanimity shown to all  as co-dwellers of the planet,  with absolute rights to their chosen activities,  possessions, and beliefs, without infringing on the space of their neighbors. Not understanding reasons for harming another living creature or destroying a useable thing. This Poem was Critiqued By: DeniMari Z. On Date: 2007-05-10 23:28:29 Dear Gerard, Very nicely written, exceptional tribute to someone you must love dearly. Described as such, in your poem, full of character as a genuinely wonderful person. Wow - would anyone ever believe we could see them as all of this? But we do, don't we? Every element of a good man, seems to be relayed in your poem. Great job - particularly like "Lorne Greene sideburns", and "as judgmental as a spring breeze". Your sixth verse packs a punch - stands out and gets the attention it's deserved. I have no changes, or suggestions to mention about this poem. It's quality, and reference speak for themselves. sincerely, Denimari ________________________________________ This Poem was Critiqued By: Lora Silvey On Date: 2007-05-10 15:48:46 Gerard, What a wonderful tribute to your "Gramps"...how fortunate for both of you to have had each other. No nits here, just a smile and warmth from being allowed the honor to share in your "Gramps". Best always, Lora

Hi Gerard....I'm so glad you posted this again as I missed it the first time and it is a wonderful tribute to your Gramps. He possessed some attributes that are rare in today's world. Sporting Loren Greene sideburns is a exceptional statement and gives this reader a perfect image of Gramps. Not understanding reasons for harming another living creature or destroying a useable thing. These lines say so much about him and wouldn't it be nice if we could all take a page from his book? Well done...I really enjoyed this write. Marilyn

Gerard, the run-on style of this poem reads like a shopping list of virtues. It works poetically only in that it builds the imagery of preponderant culmination to the outcome of what is produced by these virtues and the diligence to them, of a good man. Not that your internal rhyme, assonance, illiteration, etc. don't help it along. Couple that with the poetic language of such lines as, "Sporting Lorne Greene Sideburns", "as independent as flowing water" (my favorite,) and, "without/ surrendering to the haste of expediency", you have a fine poem well worth reading and one that does well paying homage to a remarkable man. I might even take some liberty to add, it is a poem doing justice to what is admirable everywhere. JCH

Gerard, This version is nice but I think I prefer the other more... Still, a fine tribute to your "Gramps", would it be that we should have all been blessed with one such as him in our lives. Best, Lora
