The Great Ones

I could never honor them enough… while proclaiming of their magnificence I am humbled to speak of trees and yet I will because I care: I stand beneath a Sequoia gazing upwards  a dome of limbs and leaves cover over  I'm safe in shelter of the tree I see fragments of blue sky through denseness  The tallest of evergreens borne allies  in communion with the heavens Steadfast the tree grips the terra firma  Erect it seizes first light of the day to grow, reaching greatest fullness As extensive is the tree, beneath lies  a perimeter equal to its girth I'm on sacred, tree needled ground Bending with the breeze in flexibility  The tree's hale, vigorous, and holds it's own  through most all earthly turbulence Dark the silhouette against nighttime sky  The moon's show accomplice to its ominous looming show of significance All that the tree 'is' flows out from within  Unfurled with the ease of it’s blossoming Honored as oldest living thing The tree lives tall, still, yet listening  In its shadowed greatness, I must question  What's man's worth in comparison?

Dellena, This is a wonderful tribute to the great Sequoia Trees and should be on a placard at the base of each tree, as a memoriam their beauty and to their preservation. You have created wonderful imagery with your excellent word choices. You have cover all aspects in which to view and enjoy their beauty and majesty I find little fault with your work, it is exquisitely written. The 5 stanza 2nd line; "a perimeter equal to its girth." Perimeter and girth in the same sentence appears as redundant, even though you use the word equal. Suggestion; a perimeter equal to its strength, , power, or longevity. Just a thinking out loud. I love you poem. Love, Paul

Dellena, Such a glorious tribute to the tree, sort of the life giver for all O2 breathing creatures. Your poem is packed neatly with awe inspiring images, one can smell the tree's scent; it's freshness, while bringing the reader to memories of their own tree experiences. This was such a perfect read for this early morning, packed with life and awe. Brava! Lora

I have never thought of a tree so deep. Bending with the breeze in flexibility....breathtaking. Your imagery in one to be proud of. You write with beauty. Rene'

Wow Del you must have some beautiful trees in your part of the country.......Indeed most trees in good standing are tall for they have many years of growing they have been through, they are majestic in their beauty and each one has its own shape and design. Love to sit under an old apple tree here in New England, or a stately Elm Tree....this time of the year the leaves are already turning and falling on the ground.....hate this time of the year for the world seems to come apart, dies and falls into a sleep pattern. The Great Ones is a good title and the words you have penned further allow for the reader to become a part of the landscape you describe.......seeing those beautiful trees through your eyes is really nice......comfort beneath their limbs is so true especially on a hot summer day when the sun is beating down harshly...... As extensive is the tree, beneath lies a perimeter equal to its girth I'm on sacred, tree needled ground I liked the thoughts associated with this stanza for it makes you feel like you are one with Mother Earth. If you have not heard my bravo's yet......this is superb, going on my list for the month and should stand well as you have penned it here. Hope all is well with you.......fall is in the air though so I now pray for Indian Summer to make a showing.....Take good care, God Bless, Claire
