Starlit Depth

Twilight peer into still water pool. A face shrouded with stars alight,                        some glowing. By one not so self-obsessed to stop,                     To see the night                   in deeper knowing. Where fish plow the depths         flickering light from scales Another universe might let              be something less frail.

Additional Notes:
How many veneers are there to what lies in front of one? And how might so much be reflected in the stars as in a pond?

Hello James, Sorry for such a late review. Must say I got totally lost in you pool, contemplation, observation, rationalization, speculation and now with head swimming I'm just enjoying the stars that sparkle from the different depths wondering how many souls wander above and below, the infinite forever. Very enjoyable both in verbiage and thought. Thanks for a nice evenings read. Best, Lora

Interesting read, your words certainly do bring forth many images and memories.......when I was a little girl our summers were spent at the cottage on the lake, it was nothing fancy but to us a palace and I remember mom standing in the moonlight, the sky filled with stars and her telling me how the stars dance on the pond below. Actually there is nothing more beautiful or peaceful then the artistic beauty of the moon and the stars glowing in the night sky with the reflection of it all joining the earth below. Thanks for such a beautiful setting. God Bless, Claire

James, This poem makes me think of astronauts going to search on the moon, and then realizing upon standing there looking back at the earth, that maybe the real reason they are there is to see their home planet in a different perspective and maybe appreciate it more. It also has me thinking of other realities on top of this one unknowing to us. I like you speaking of someone so self absorbed they can't see beyond their nose. How boring that must be. I don't suppose I got your drift but I got my ideas and they pleased me none the less. Later hunk..... Dellena

JCH, It depends upon whose looking. If Wordsworth looked at the stars and saw something other than Wordsworth his eyes would have failed HIM. Had Galileo, on the other hand, and seen Galileo, there would have been the same failure. Both would have seen the same thing, themselves, and one would have been blinded, the other's sight would have been liberated. Wordsworth's self-obsession was a glory, and brought him a "deeper knowing." There's a poetic justice to that. I love these lines: "Where fish plow the depths / flickering light from scales." MSS
