Lost Among the Branches

The Giant White Oak towers over our side lawn shading the deck A shadowy maze  of signpost leaves  and highway branches I lounge under the enchanting scene pondering age and mysteries withheld  Under passing sunlight it transforms to cloak-and-dagger silhouettes Approaching dawn wakens a rustle here a movement there A greedy Blue Jay  knocking an acorn pausing to peer about guardedly Way, way up a Plucky Squirrel working the high wire focused on the coming winter Chipmunks too  scramble the by-ways for their share Chattering curses at my interruption they toss acorns cracking to the deck Scampering down to extract their proceeds they torment the Window Cat  Now I too have a job cleaning a deck littered with half-shells The critters work is unending  but soon I linger once more  delightfully lost among the branches

Hi Kenneth, A wonderful image rich piece of your relacing moment under the sprawling branches of this tree. I like the way this piece comes together with visuals, audio and movement. Good poem !! Duane.

Hi poet.....should feel good for it reads great, filled with images if the season, the leaves that cover the ground, in need of raking, yet...more to follow....love the image of the critters busy at work, getting their winter space ready filled with supplies.....acorns falling, the sounds of them as they hit th deck and ground and yes perhaps once in awhile you or me.....as we stand and watch lost among those brances.....I'm envious for my muse fell asleep and refuses to wake up......looking forward to more of your work. By the way, thank you ever so much for the copy of grampa's book that you published.......what an honor......hope you are well and that life is treating you well. Take care, God Bless, Claire

Kenneth, I can relate! I've 3 almond trees by my deck. Nuts on my head. What a kick. Your poem is delightful. Nicely paced, moves along perfectly. And I love the trees too. And to ponder even better... Nice job, glad you wrote in.....more please. It's a good thing. Dellena

Hi Ken....your imagery in this poem is excellent. You describe the scene so well I felt as if I were sitting beside you watching the Blue Jay and Chipmunk and Squirrel. I have critters in my backyard, as well and I never tire of watching them and neither does my dog (she is yet to figure out why she can't climb a tree.) I am pleased to see you writing again...Hope it continues! best.....M.
