My Votes for March

Points: 7.5676 Sleep submitted by Duane J Jackson on 2009-03-15 02:14:43  Points: 6.81084 Spring Spirited submitted by Dellena Rovito on 2009-03-07 23:00:00  Points: 6.05408 Irreconcilable submitted by Kenneth R. Patton on 2009-03-25 07:35:16  Points: 5.29732 What Do They Know submitted by Nancy Ann Hemsworth on 2009-03-06 16:27:
Although I can understand the appeal felt for DeniMari's, Scan, I felt, as I indicate in my critique of it, that it was a rich work-in-progress, but had serious flaws as a poem. That some of the same can be said for Ms. Hemsworth's, What Do They Know, is excepted by the latters immense amount of social value that can be applied. I would happily give both credits for resubmitting their poems to have them rewrite them.  Of course my favorite for the month was Duane's, Sleep, and my bias was demonstrated by my submitted commentary. I hope, as has been the case in the past so many times, it was not a â€œkiss of death” and that we're passed that kind of infantile behavior.  I was delighted by Mr. Patton's, Irreconcilable, a poem carefully measured in short poem style and successful because he left his homespun rustic touch out of it. Unfortunately the last line in the one other poem he submitted this month was blighted by that practice.  A meager month, but one, I hope, that is from distraction and not trend. I would like to have far better cause to fill out my â€œdance card”.  JCH

James, I understand where you are coming from, applaud you for revealing your choices and why. Wish you could post on the forum and that we could keep this part just for poems but until....thanks for your openess and honesty. L

If this is indeed a poem, it is unique, different and strange, it has been many years since being on this site, I see a lot has changed, what I see is a deep introspection of points, critiques, what is deserved, what is given, what is right and what is wrong, I like rhymes, I am much more lyrical than poetic I guess, this writing does remind me of why I left and stopped critiquing, I think honest critiquing is one thing, but critiquing just for the sake of trying to get someone to change their work of art is something else. I have never changed any of my poems even after all the critiques because in my opinion, the end result would not be from me, it would be a completely new poem, I know I need to change and grow, but I just want to know if my poems are good or bad, there could be 100 different critiques with 100 different suggestions, which ones should we as a poet use and change our work of art, what if everyone is wrong and the poem is fine the way it is Just a thought Thanks Claus Ranswill

I agree JC; and did revise Scan with the help of your effort given to me to improve it. I have no idea why it placed where it did in the final voting...and was surprised as well how it scored. I appreciated the flaws you pointed out...saw them..and thanked you for mentioning them to me. That's why I still love this site; the open honesty and help each writer gives the other. There were much better writes in March - and Sleep was exceptional. Maybe; we can fill up the dance card for April. blessings, Deni

Hi James, Thank you so much for your consideration of 'sleep' as the top poem of the month. Here's looking forward to a better month in April in terms of submissions and critiques. Duane.
