Inner Sanctum

It comes in so many forms thirst for reason moment of greed need for pleasure Others are not a concern feelings are only inward passions are a blessing thoughts are never complete Excuses are always given truth is always hidden dual personalities, common wealth of the soul never achieved So hard to control yet so easily found  The depths so difficult in finding the surface yet light is found when inner strength is the focus Addiction is from within and will be defeated there or death will prevail…

I would prefer images, Thomas, AND more about the source of the voice behind these acquired revelations. Power is in the instant and not in a platitude of it. We reach to touch another in our poems of such a grasp at understanding and in that "touch" is the defining difference between poetry and prose...not lyric, not rhyme, not structure at all. Bring this poem in to "touch" its reader. Certainly the meat to do it is here. JCH

Some deep insight within each verse of this poem. Sheer will power can be broken in an instant - temptation takes the point & wins in most cases. I like the comparison; and words you've chosen to make each image visible to the reader. Feelings are only inward must be the thoughts of one; considering the choice - Excuses; run amok in life - wonder who came up with the original word & why, (Smile) Dual personalities; can be good vs bad in everyone; & I wonder how one achieves wealth of the soul except to say it must be a feeling of complete satisfaction with everything in life. Strength has to be found every day; with the light to keep someone following it's lead - very nicely done JC, blessings, Deni

Thomas, You've said it all. We have this void to fill and few things will suffice. Our cup is empty and must be filled. The only thing that matters is our relationship to the great spirit. With patience and watchful thought it comes. as you know. Wonderful! Dellena

Hi Thomas, This was a strong philosophical take on the inner sanctums of our souls. There is truth here and would make anyone stop to think. My favorite line is - 'The depths so difficult in finding the surface, yet light is found when inner strength is the focus'. Thank you for sharing and glad to have you back. Duane.
