The Sheriff's Last Salute

The fireworks went off without even a glitch Spectacular weather the band perfect pitch The crowd was entranced at sky sparked excitement Adults ooohed and aaahed children screamed in delightment The show too soon over they piled into cars Some took the kids home some took to the bars Night turned to dawn but somewhere in transition The sheriff was found in compromising position The funeral was strained each deputy spoke Of a wonderful friend felled by a horrible stroke His weight was the cause they knew all along At the slightest exertion something bad could go wrong Though all were surprised they took oath to stay mute Death, in the arms of Miss Daisy in her "House of Ill Repute" The mortician was vexed because he couldn't erase The ear-to-ear smile on the sheriff's fat face!!!
