An Insufferable Host Throws a Party (please read)

The contest or a bumpy ride through poet'sville. Should I be looking for an opening headline. Well, it's brought out the critter in me and now I've decided, in imperial fashion, what I'm going to do. Cause, to borrow from better ways of putting it (though less succinct) the guy with the bread decides how to dispense it among the birds.  I agreed, at Cheyenne's request to take her winning poem from last month's  tabulation out of the mix. I lied. Doing that screws up my sense of being in control and, as any feminist will tell you, we heathen men need that to perform well. So I lied. Sue me. You might get an arrogant cat and a credit card debt out of that. (Rhyme unintended.) Because I'm so behind in so many things right now, I'm taking MAH up on his kind offer to do the tabulating. Just remember, Mark, I'm not in the contest so don't count my points. And divide first and second place in the first month's tabulation with Cheyenne and Terry after you grant them collectively first and second place.  Even though it's been bumpy, the reactions are very gratifying. I'm quite taken with both the quantity and quality of poems we're seeing and the exemplary way we resolved issues we hadn't anticipated.  The hardest quality to keep in today's "information" media is that of giving close readings. And in order to be fair, I'm seeing more and more of that being done in your critiques. Those critiques, just as much as the poetry, are our reasons for being here. The poet puts it out there and should be breathless (though some might not admit it) to see what his/her poem fetches.  Love, regardless JCH, the Insufferable

I stopped by and yes I read your writing.....bravo for you James......I love how our words come alive whether you are just talking, telling it like it is or perhaps presenting a new poem from your pen. I have not written a single poem in way too long a spell and I often wish my muse would whisper in my ear while I sleep causing me to rise with pen in hand.....those were the days my friend and I am sure you have spent many sleepless nights listening to your muse run around in your head too. Thanks for being such a great friend to TPL and for sticking by all of us. Looking forward to what the month brings forward. God Bless, Claire

Sounds good, JCH. This part-"Doing that screws up my sense of being in control and, as any feminist will tell you, we heathen men need that to perform well." -really gave me a laugh, because feminists, women generally, don't put "being in control" and "performing well" in the same sentence regarding men unless they're speaking of men in a complimentary way. The subtle differences in the ways men and women perceive things is almost never shown so much complexity and depth as it is in poetry. Women haven't yet expressed it as well as men but that will change. (Which reminds me, I have to go read some Pablo Neruda.) Terry
