Stop

brakelights gleaming in anticipation of what lies ahead heads turned sharply to stare at what has been seen countless times yet still holds endless fascination truck smashed casually into the center divide as if it were its true destination perfection in destruction flares screaming keep away the same time whispering sweetly seducing the eyes to gaze upon the temporary burial shroud white sheet pulled high to guard the anonymity the essential substance nothing is driven to the hospital to the morgue to be categorized tag on the toes to wait to once again become something someone's lover, someone's son, someone's friend on the second floor a man struggles desperately to save another defy God, fate, chance the blood stained hands fail to incriminate an old man is fed red jello near the only thing he can digest and a comatose woman  listens to the patterns of footsteps imagines who they belong to praying that once more she may have a glimpse in another's eyes evidence of her humanity
